amazon.com to do TV - well the commercials at least

http://www.southflorida.com/news/sfl-119amazon.com,0,3577898.story?coll=sfla-entertainment-headlines

amazon.com said it was going to start in June streaming webcasts w/ Bill Maher as host. the 30-min webcasts are basically advertisements for products on the site, w/ guests talking about the products and where you can buy them instantly, of course. some cross btw QVC, E!, and those infomercials for exercise machines at 3a.m.

I wonder if people will come to the site to watch. article says there will be celebrity guests like Stephen King and Rob Thomas. Would you go to amazon.com to watch an infomercial? hmmmm
I guess it'll depend on the star power of the guests, the products they're hawking, and the cheesiness of the delivery. I doubt Maher will throw in political commentary.

I don't know whether this trend is interesting, or disturbing, or both. But basically, what's happening is that commercials are gradually being transformed into actual "entertainment" (sometimes even with a tinge of artistic merit) while regular entertainment is being transformed into commercials. I'm guessing there will come a time in the not-too-distant future where the idea of self-consciously inserted advertisments and product placement ceases to exist, and we pay money in the theater to watch a 90-minute commercial for Nikes directed by a major filmmaker.

....and it will feature computer generated simulated actors that look identical to real-life celebrities.

I'm down to watch if they put some hot celebs (britney, perhaps?) in the infommercials, sporting lingerie or something like that. But the time has to be limited...after watching more than five minutes of it you start to feel like you're wasting brain power on something so mindless.
